How Far in Advance Should You Book Your Wedding Entertainment?
If there’s one message I want to get across to couples planning their wedding, it’s this:
Please don’t leave your entertainment booking too late.
Every year — especially during the busy summer months — I get dozens of enquiries from couples asking if I’m available… just weeks before their big day. And far too often, I have to say no. The date’s already gone, sometimes booked over two years ago.
It’s genuinely one of the hardest parts of my job — having to turn people away when I know I could have made their day unforgettable. It’s not just for weddings, of course, but birthday parties and other events which tend to be booked at lesser notice, I am often not available for.
So, When Should You Book?
🗓 Ideally: At least 12 to 18 months before your date
If you’re getting married between May and September — particularly on a weekend — you should aim to book your entertainment as soon as your venue is confirmed. The most popular dates (bank holiday weekends, summer Saturdays, etc.) are usually the first to go.
Some couples are surprised to hear I’ve got bookings in the diary up to 2 years in advance — but for peak dates, that’s completely normal.
✔ Okay: 6 to 12 months before
You may still have a good selection of entertainers available, especially for off-peak months or midweek weddings. But you might need to compromise on specific performers, times, or packages.
⚠ Risky: Less than 6 months to go
At this point, most full-time professional acts — especially those who sing, play instruments and DJ (like me) — will have limited availability. This can be disappointing and frustrating for everyone.
Why Does It Matter?
Entertainment is one of the most memorable parts of your day. It’s the moment your guests let their hair down, it’s the soundtrack to your first dance, and it’s the atmosphere that carries you into the evening. Whether it’s a soulful sax solos during your drinks reception or a full-blown party Ibiza set with DJ and live sax, it shapes the feel of your wedding.
And the truth is: great entertainment gets booked quickly.
A Personal Note
I’ve lost count of the number of messages I’ve received from lovely couples — often super excited, really enthusiastic — only to realise they’ve left it just a little too late and I’m already committed elsewhere. I get how stressful wedding planning can be, and how easy it is to focus on venues, dresses, or catering first — but your entertainment really is worth securing early.
If we’re a good fit, I’d love to be part of your day. Whether you want smooth jazz during your reception, Ibiza-style sax during golden hour, or a full DJ & sax party to end the night, I’ll help you create a soundtrack that fits you perfectly.
Final Thought: If You’ve Got a Date, Get in Touch
Even if your wedding is a year or more away, get in touch early. I’ll talk you through your options and help you find the right package — no pressure, just honest advice.
And if you’re reading this with only a few months to go? Still reach out. If I can help, I will — and if not, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction.
